We are thrilled to share an incredible milestone! After months of dedicated teamwork, our very first wound care patient is officially healed and discharged! When our wound care clinic first opened in July 2024, the first patient that came through our door was A paraplegic patient, cared for full-time by his parents, had been struggling with wounds on both legs 3 years. What started as a a simple blister. turned into far more serious—8 deep, tendon-exposing pressure ulcers! No matter what treatment was done the patient was unable to heal the wounds and they progressively got worse.
Our team jumped into action with an intensive wound care plan. We started with excisional debridement, in the OR at GVI carefully removing damaged tissue to kick start the healing process. Then came advanced treatments like Apligraf and Kerecis skin graft applications, cutting-edge therapies designed to rebuild and repair. We added negative pressure wound therapy to speed up healing process and made sure he had the off-loading boots to relieve pressure and prevent new wounds from forming. Week after week, for seven long months, our team worked alongside this patient and his family, navigating the ups and downs of wound healing with persistence and care.
And then finally the moment we had all been waiting for! Every single wound had fully closed. This journey has been a powerful reminder of just how life-changing proper wound care can be. What started as a small blister could have led to devastating consequences, even amputation , but with the right care, support, and determination, healing is possible.
We are beyond proud of this patient and his parents who ti worked with us following directions, I’m bringing him for weekly appointments.
Here’s to more healing, more victories, and more success stories ahead!
