A patient recently presented to Dr. Noor with a persistent diabetic foot ulcer and nerve damage, unable to feel their foot.
Often, patients with non healing wounds have compromised blood flow in their legs and digits that prevents healing of their ulcers. This can progress to the point where so much tissue loss has occurred that digits or limbs need to be amputated. At first, studies did not show evidence of peripheral arterial disease in the arteries of this patient's upper legs; however, significant blockage was found below this ankle. Dr. Noor performed a Rotapro atherectomy procedure below the ankle vessels to restore blood flow in the patient's foot, hopefully promoting healing and saving the patient's digit from amputation.
